Padouk Tabletop by Customer Paul Mattlin

Paul recently replaced a worn oak table top with this beautiful Padouk slab.

In case you were wondering, Paul used three coats of tung oil under a thick layer of clear resin for durability.

If you like what you see, we still have a handful of these same Padouk slabs in stock.

They are 1.5" thick, 30-33" wide and up to 195" long!

Check out this 3" x 3" square of Cocobolo!

We knew this piece would end up looking pretty good!

3" x 3" x 24" (surfaced to 2-3/4") piece of Highly Figured Cocobolo. Great bee's-wing figure throughout all four sides. Best part about it is its size. Can be used as is or milled up into smaller stock while still retaining the great figure (i.e billiard cues...)

We are liking the new Koa!

We just couldn't help ourselves...

The new Koa shorts we received last week looked so good we decided to bring down the entire lift of lumber and surface them to see what they look like cleaned up-

Amazing stuff, just look at a handful of the pieces in the above picture!

Nice dark grained figure that would work perfectly for a wide range of projects. (Boxes, furniture, ukuleles, etc.)

Since we will be open tomorrow, Saturday March 26th 9:30-1:00, we will keep the lift down and accessible to all our walk-in customers.

Customer James Hagland picks up some wood for his next project

James dropped by the shop last week to pick up this big chunk of wood for his next carving.

20" x 20" x 20" solid block of Mexican Parota with no center pith!

What would you do with a piece of wood this size?

James said it may be a while, but he promises to send us some images of his project once it is complete.

(The real fun part was trying to fit this piece of wood in the trunk of his car!)

Our "Free Shipping" March special on our large Parota Slabs has been a big hit this month.

Many of you have picked 1 or 2 slabs (or in some cases even more) and have saved hundreds of dollars by having us ship it to you free of charge to your nearest freight dock.

This offer was for the first 10 Parota orders through the month of March (no limit on how many slabs per order) and we are now down to the last 2.

Custom Cocobolo Police Baton by Drew MacDonald of Sheepdog Woodworks

Sheepdog Woodworks is a perfect example of why we love what we do- supplying unique and creative companies with quality exotics from around the world.

Owner Drew MacDonald, specializes in custom made police batons out of our sawmill-direct Cocobolo turning squares.

Here is some more information on Drew and and his company-

• Sworn officer in the DC Metro area for 10 years. Recently medically retired.

• All batons handmade. Custom sizes and designs available to accommodate officer preference and departmental guidelines.

• Each stick is carved based in the inherent characteristics of the blank-proportion and taper-to ensure proper balance, feel, and function.

• Batons are carried on duty, given as gifts (promotions, retirements), and used for dress uniforms (honor guards, pipe and drum corps, etc.)

Below are some images of Sheepdog's "Premier" grade presentation batons. All were constructed out of our "Highly Figured" 1.5" x 1.5" Cocobolo turning squares.

Here we have a couple more customers taking advantage of our "Free Shipping Special" on tabletop Parota Slabs through the month of March!

(In case you are wondering-the Parota Slab in the last pictures measures 3.5" thick x 45" wide x 181" long! That was a fun one to package up, talk about a big chunk of wood!)

Cocobolo boxes by Customer Judd Lotts

Customer Judd Lotts from Prescott, Arizona recently sent us these fantastic images of two Cocobolo boxes he just completed.

Judd has been purchasing wood from us for years and always takes advantage of our large selection of "extra-wide" Mexican cocobolo lumber to get the look he wants in his projects.

If we remember correctly, Judd used a few pieces of Cocobolo lumber roughly 9-11" wide and as a result was able to grain match all the drawer fronts with the one piece tops.

We think these boxes turned out great, what do you guys think?

Yesterday we received a neat load of mixed exotic lumber.

Padouk and Purpleheart lumber in some amazing dimensions
(some up to 16 foot long and over 13" wide!)

We personally haven't had time to go the though the lift yet but the stock looks really nice!

Customer Project: Denise Oka's Parota Dining Table

Many of you have probably seen a picture of this tabletop posted on the "Slabs Page" of our website (see second image)

Customer Denise Oka had this gorgeous Parota Slab finished by Tassajara Designs nearly a year ago and since then has been busy creating a custom base to compliment the top.



Here are some images of her finished tabletop that she recently sent us.

At nearly 4 foot wide x 10 foot long, this Parota table should sit 8-10 people comfortably and has that highly desired organic "one-piece" look to it.

Cost is also worth noting on these great looking slabs. At nearly half the price of other comparable slabs, parota is just a fantastic option any way you look at it-
