Cleaning up some Cocobolo crotch sections

Great for turning or can be used as coffee table bases with a glass top.

We have had numerous clients inquire about the Cocobolo log section that we posted about a week ago , so we decided to clean up some other similar pieces here at the shop.

Updated photos of the crotch sections will be posted online within the next few days...

Milling 2 inch Bloodwood turning squares as we speak...

Cutting up the last remaining billet from our old batch of Bloodwood purchased around 15 years ago.
This old stock had that nice cardinal red color that is getting harder and harder to find nowadays.
Let us know if you want to snag any pieces before it's gone.

Click here to see available turning stock.

New slabs added to our "Slabs Page"! (Koa, Ebony & more...)

We just added about 10 new Koa slabs in an assortment of sizes to our website (includes some neat "short" koa slabs that would make great end tables/cutting boards/etc.)

Click here to see a full list of available slabs.

Several other assorted exotic slabs added to the "Slabs Page" as well. Ebony, Pink Ivory, Black Acacia, Maple and more...

Feel free to contact us directly if you have any questions.

I guess that answers that question...

Looks like our parota rounds slabs DO fit in a UPS package (just barely...)
Our UPS driver is not going to be a happy camper today, sorry.

Cocobolo/Steel desk by Gary Hunt

We love Gary's simple and functional design for his desktop.

Sometimes there is no need to over-complicate the construction (especially when using gorgeous hand selected pieces of Cocobolo!)

1/4" hot rolled steel plate tops matched with 8/4 extra-wide Cocobolo lumber for the legs.

Thanks for the images Gary!

Highly Figured Cocobolo Squared Log!

We just received this beauty!

7" x 8" x 26.5" squared crotch log of Mexican Cocobolo.

This is a prefect example of why Mexican Cocobolo is such a higher grade wood than Central American varieties. Tighter grain, better color, etc. Just overall much better material to work with.

Below are some pictures of the squared log after we coated it with wax to protect it (good indication of the finished color) and right after we cleaned it up to look at the figure.

Will post on the Online Store in the next day or so (unless it sells before then)

Large olive log/burl!

Just received this large piece of olive. Neat log section filled with burls. Will post on the online store later today.
Measures roughly 45 inches x 20 inches x 15 inches!

Mesquite Log.

A customer of ours inquired about a Mesquite Log we have here at the shop and wanted to know what the end grain would look like...

This gave us a good excuse to make a few cuts on it and...

This is what we end up with (It's nice to take on little projects like this every now and then and see "beneath the surface" of some of these pieces).

Wet the ends slightly and... Look at the color of this log!

We thought we'd share this with y'all. Let us know what YOU think.

Wenge cut-offs available at only $2.50/lbs!

As many of you know we just received a few pallet loads of beautiful Wenge cut-offs a few days ago.

Thicker material (up to 1.5" thick) in a variety of sizes make it a great option for numerous different wood projects (turning, musical stock, furniture, etc.) Besides ebony, wenge is about as dark as wood gets so it is a great inexpensive alternative for plugs, pins, small accents, etc.

The best part-

We are offering all the material at our discount "exotic scrap" price of $2.50/lbs!*

*Purchase 300 lbs or more and get it for ONLY $2.00/lbs!

These cut-offs are available for purchase on our online store (click here) or you can call us directly to place your order over the phone (760-434-3030)

Wenge material over 1" thick is getting harder and harder to find, take advantage of this stock while we have it!

Now this would make a great tabletop!

New pallets of exotic shorts just in! Drop by the shop and dig through the new stock......

We just finished offloading multiple pallets of exotic shorts that we recently found stashed in an old warehouse.

Nearly 50% of it is 6/4 and 8/4 Wenge shorts (some 4/4) in random widths and lengths 36" and under (Many of you know how difficult it is to find thick Wenge these days...)

The other 50% is 8/4 Koa and 5/4 East Indian Rosewood in the same dimensions.

We don't have an exact price on this material just quite yet but plan on it being pretty cheap! (Like 40-50% our regular price!)

We are going through the stacks as we speak, feel free to drop by the shop and dig into the stack yourself!!!

Nice!

Just waxed the ends of the cocobolo logs that we posted a few days ago.
Look at the color on these two!
Should only look nicer with a proper finish.

Design in Wood "Sponsor's Choice Perpetual Trophy" winner Bob Marnul stops by the shop...

Bob recently stopped by the shop to pick up some new exotics for numerous different projects he is working on.

Many of you might recognize Bob's cocobolo armoire that was on display at this year's Design in Wood exhibit at the San Diego County fair.

Bob's piece won the 2011 "Sponsor's Choice Perpetual Trophy" that is currently on display here at our shop.

We are open today.

After a power outage in San Diego County, we are back at the shop. Power has since been restored and all our equipment seems to be working properly.

One of our favorites...

No matter how many pieces we come across, it's hard to beat a nice piece of highly figured Bocote!

Cocobolo log section

Amazing growth rings on this old log of cocobolo.
Makes you wonder what caused it to grow in that manner. Pretty neat!
