Cocobolo "Extra Wide" pieces have been added to the Online Store!

We have added some Extra Wide pieces of 4/4 and 8/4 cocobolo lumber to the Online Store.

Most have been left unsurfaced to keep the thickness at a maximum, but we did take a few and surfaced them to show the grain/color-pretty pieces!

"Extra Wide" is 8"+ in width, which is very rare for Mexican Cocobolo

Mostly used for musical instruments, these wide pieces are also great for higher end furniture and other related projects.

Click here to check out our online store.

Feel free to call us if you have any questions or if you would rather place your order over the phone.

Want to make a neat (and inexpensive) coffee table?

These two pictures were recently sent to us by a customer trying to match an existing coffee table he spotted at a high end furniture store.

Here is a picture of a small Parota Slab very similar to the one he ended up purchasing from us.

Nearly identical figure/color and pretty much the same dimensions as well!

According to the customer, he was able to purchase the slab and have it custom built for him at about one fifth of the cost of the finished table he spotted.

Not bad, huh?

We know there is something to be said about walking into a furniture store and purchasing a finished table that is ready to go, but if you have a little time and don't mind doing some of the work, our Parota slabs are a great value that will yield fantastic looking tables.

Click here to see some more of our slabs.

The same client also wanted to construct an additional coffee table with the same color but in a different shape.

He ended up falling in love with our "Round" Parota Slabs" (especially after we told him that they were all discounted 30-60%!)

Again, Parota is our best selling slab material for numerous reasons:

-Great dimensions
-Great workability
-Sustainable species
-& LOW COST!

Feel free to contact us if you have been thinking about a one-of-a-kind coffee or dining table but have been cringing at the price of other large slabs or finished tables.

Our "Best Selling" Parota Slabs may just be exactly what you have been searching for!

Pretty (and rare!) piece of Cocobolo

This piece had been sitting in the back for a while so we decided to run it through the thickness planer to see what it looked like.

Not too shabby, huh?

What makes this piece rare?

1) 84 inches long!
2) Almost 11 inches wide!
3) 6/4 thickness ( we usually only cut 4/4 and 8/4)
4) Bone dry!

Little bit of a bend to the board lengthwise, but nothing too serious.

Imagine resawing this into a bunch of matching material for cabinets, guitars, tabletop, etc.

Will be added to the Online Store on Tuesday (it's sitting at the front of the shop if you want to snag it before then...)

Primavera "Blond Mahogany" Surf Shop Sign!

(all pictures above taken from surfysurfy.net)

Local surf shop Surfy Surfy recently constructed a new sign using one of our large Primavera Slabs.

Each letter was handcarved and finished by co-owner Jon Pankopf and is now on display outside their shop on the coast highway in Leucadia, California.

Jon used one solid 2.5" thick primavera slab much like the one pictured below and really did a great job of showing the fantastic grain and color of this species.

Also known as "Blond Mahogany" as a result of its workability and grain, Primavera is a great choice for a variety of projects which include- furniture, cabinetry, musical instruments, and wood turnings.

Click here to see all available Primavera Slabs on our "Slabs" Page

Much like other "Mahogany-like" woods, Primavera just looks better as it ages. The color gets richer and the grain really starts to show.

If thick slabs are not what you are looking for, we also have a healthy supply of 4/4 and 8/4 lumber here at the shop, including a batch of figured 4/4 lumber that just came up on our latest load from Mexico (see picture below)

Feel free to contact us for more information on our Primavera and make sure to check out the new Surfy Surfy sign if you are in the area-

Pretty pieces of lumber at discounted prices in our "one-off" rack!

This is a section of our lumber rack where we group unique pieces from prior loads and discount them by 10%.

Some of these pieces are really neat and hard to find.

If you don't mind digging through the lift, there are some real gems at great prices that can be used for a variety if projects.

There is a little bit of everything in the rack- figured exotics, domestics (see pic of claro walnut above), crotch, small slabs, etc.

Some of our clients only concentrate on this rack when they drop by the shop knowing that they can find some great pieces at great prices.

Check out this pieces pictured above-

10 foot piece of "real" genuine mahogany from the 1950's. This is the golden brown tight grained stuff and not that salmon colored junk that most wood shops try to pass off as mahogany. And at 10% off you can't beat it!

We aren't going to lie- some pieces have cracks and are oddly shaped, but we figure at the right price there is a use for everything here at the shop.

(At 14 inches wide and at a discounted price, we are sure one or two of you can find a use for the pretty piece of zebrawood pictured above!)

Feel free to drop by the shop and dig through the rack to see what you can find. If you don't know where to look, just ask for the "one off" rack and we will point you in the right direction.
