Parota "Alaia"

This is a Tropical Exotic Hardwoods creation, with the help of-

Local surfboard shaper Steve Clark (shaping)
&
Mike Wells of Tassajara Designs (finish)

We wanted to make a replica of an ancient Hawaiian alaia surfboard out of some of our Parota.

Alaias were thin finless surfboards that were ridden by the ancient Hawaiians and were traditionally made of local woods such as Koa.

Since Parota has been referred to as a "lesser expensive alternative to Koa", we figured we would try and make one.

We think it turned out great!

We didn't want to use one of our nice wide pieces so we used a 12" wide board and glued two 3" wide strips along the edges to get our desired width.

Local surboard shaper Steve Clark helped us out with the rails and some of the bottom concaves
and Mike Wells of Tassajara Designs gave it two coats of tung oil and sprayed it with two coats of catalyzed laquer (the same finish he uses on his large Parota Tabletops)

Want to make one or think you could use Parota for one of your other projects?

We have plenty of 4/4 and 8/4 lumber in stock in an assortment of sizes, give us a call and we can tell you more about it.

This particular guitar blew us away.
Highly Figured Cocobolo Flatsawn backs and sides.

If I remember correctly Danial claims its one of his best sounding guitars.
We think it has to be one of his best looking ones as well!

Here we have-cocobolo back and sides, cocobolo bridge,
cocobolo headplate and even a cocobolo capo!

Asian Striped Ebony Door and Medicine Cabinets

Here are a few pictures sent to us by Tassajara Designs-

Asian Striped Ebony Door and matching medicine cabinets.

As many of you know, Macassar Ebony has been in very short supply and high demand for quite some time now.

As a result, Asian Striped Ebony has quickly become a viable replacement for its figure, long lengths (in relation to most ebonies) and price.

At $35/BF, your looking about half the going rate of all other ebonies.

Asian Striped Ebony looks amazing once finished.

It matches well with a variety of other species and as stated before, is available in great dimensions.

Think Asian Striped Ebony will work for you?

See our "Lumber Page" on our website for more or call us directly if you have any other questions.
